Short version: Accessibility isn't an afterthought for us — the whole reason Tervik exists is building tools for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We hold this website and our tools to that same standard, and we're honest below about where we've verified it and where we're still working.
1. Our standard
We design toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, and the accessibility goals of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. This site has not yet been through a formal third-party WCAG audit — we're a small team and this is an actively evolving prototype, so treat this page as our current, honest status rather than a compliance certification.
2. What's in place today
- Semantic HTML landmarks (nav, header, main, footer) and heading structure throughout the site
- Keyboard-navigable menus, forms, and links — nothing on this site requires a mouse
- Descriptive alt text on meaningful images; decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them
- Color choices checked for reasonable contrast against our teal/gold/white palette
- Visible focus states on interactive elements
- Responsive layout that reflows for screen magnification and mobile screen readers
3. The Tervik operations platform
The software product itself (used inside partner programs) was built accessibility-first from day one, because its users include students and staff with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It includes an Easy Mode, a High Contrast mode, larger touch targets, full keyboard navigation, a screen magnifier, and text-to-speech ("Read this to me") on every core screen — TTS and the magnifier work together so people can hear and see content at the size and pace that works for them. Those features go further than this marketing site does today, because that's where our actual end users live.
4. Known gaps
We haven't run automated or assistive-technology testing (e.g. NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver) against every page of this marketing site yet. If you rely on a screen reader, switch control, or other assistive technology and hit something that doesn't work, please tell us — see below. We'll fix it and we mean that.
This website is also still under construction. We plan to bring more of the platform's own accessibility features here soon, including text-to-speech and a magnifier/text-size control for this site itself.
5. Feedback and contact
If any part of this site or our tools is hard to use, email arvi@tervik.org with what you were trying to do and what happened. We read every message ourselves and will follow up.
