What this builds
Reading charts and tables carefully: printed values over visual tricks, percent and dollar conversions, and spotting misleading scales or headlines.
Using Nudges
Nudges name a method (which numbers to compare, whether the axis is cropped). They should not reveal the answer letter. Read with the student only after a first try.
Coaching
- Point to the printed number on the chart before any arithmetic.
- For cropped axes, ask what value the baseline starts at.
- Have students say the claim out loud, then check it against the table.
